Safety

We formulate for families, not chemistry labs. Grease Be Gone is biodegradable and citrus-based, but it is still active chemistry. We recommend gloves and safety glasses, especially when spraying overhead. Never mix it with other household cleaners; combining cleaning chemistries can release dangerous fumes. Ventilate confined areas, work on warm surfaces rather than hot ones, and keep rinse water out of storm drains and waterways.

Step-by-Step

Spray, scrub, dwell, wipe

Prep

Scrape off the loose buildup

Scrape or wire-brush the chunky, built-up grease and char off the surface first, especially on grill grates. That lets the spray reach the actual grease layer underneath instead of sitting on top of debris.

⏱ A couple of minutes

Spray until saturated

Shake the bottle, then spray or brush Grease Be Gone straight onto the contaminated area until it is fully saturated. It comes ready to use from the trigger bottle, so there is nothing to dilute or mix.

⏱ A minute or two
Pro tip:

On grills, preheat briefly to loosen the grease, then turn it off before applying. Warm surfaces let the product penetrate faster. Hot surfaces just create unnecessary vapor.

Scrub it into the grease

Work the solution into the grease with a non-scratch sponge or nylon brush. Scrubbing now, before the dwell, drives the citrus solvent into the fat so it can break the bond while you wait.

⏱ A few minutes

Let it dwell 10 to 20 minutes

Walk away and let the citrus solvent do the work. Give it 10 to 20 minutes, longer for extreme buildup. You will see the grease go from dry and crusted to wet and loosened when it is ready to wipe.

⏱ 10-20 minutes

Wipe and rinse clean

Wipe off the residual with a wet sponge or cloth using clean water, or rinse the surface down. If any baked-on grease remains, repeat the spray, scrub, and dwell cycle on the stubborn spots.

Good to Know

Do this, not that

Do

  • Give it the full dwell. 10 to 20 minutes, longer for extreme buildup. Patience beats muscle every time.

  • Work warm surfaces, not hot. Warm grates and stovetops release grease faster. Hot surfaces create unnecessary vapor.

  • Repeat on stubborn spots. A second spray, scrub, and dwell cycle finishes what one pass cannot.

Don't

  • Mix it with other cleaners. Never combine with any other household cleaner. Mixing cleaning chemistries can release dangerous fumes.

  • Spray hot surfaces or live equipment. Engines and mechanical parts only when cool and unpowered. Never on hot or energized components.

  • Let rinse water reach storm drains. The formula is toxic to aquatic life, so keep runoff out of ditches, sewers, and waterways and dispose responsibly.

Can I use it on grill grates?

Yes, grates are one of the jobs we built this product for. Preheat the grill briefly to loosen the grease, turn it off, spray the grates, scrub, let it dwell 10 to 20 minutes, then wipe or rinse with clean water before the next cook.

What is the active ingredient?

D-Limonene, a citrus-peel extract, at 5 to 10 percent concentration. That is where the orange scent comes from, with zero petroleum-based solvents.

How is it different from Eco-Clean All Purpose Cleaner?

Eco-Clean is our general-purpose cleaner for everyday surfaces. Grease Be Gone is purpose-built for baked-on kitchen and garage grease where you need more aggressive citrus-solvent action. Use Eco-Clean for daily wipe-downs and Grease Be Gone when the buildup is thick and cooked on.

Is it bad for fish or aquatic life?

The SDS notes it is toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects, so do not pour rinse water directly into storm drains or waterways. Dispose of it responsibly per your local regulations.
