OVERVIEW

The plant-based stain that works with wood, not against it.

Evolve Soy Stains use soy oil chemistry to penetrate deep into wood grain instead of sitting on top. The result is a natural, lasting finish that moves with the wood — no cracking, no peeling, and no harsh fumes during application.

  • No preconditioner required — apply directly to sanded wood
  • Deep-penetrating soy formula enhances natural grain character
  • Ultra-low VOC, safe for indoor use without a respirator
  • 2 to 4 hour dry time between coats
  • Available in 8 curated stain tones
3 EZ steps

Stain a dresser before the afternoon is over.

Sand to 180-220 grit

Start with clean, dry, sanded wood. No preconditioner needed. Wipe away all dust with a tack cloth before applying.

10 to 20 min

Apply with cloth or brush

Work a thin, even coat into the grain with the wood. Let it penetrate 2 to 4 minutes, then wipe away any excess with a clean cloth.

5 to 10 min per coat

Dry, then second coat

Let dry 2 to 4 hours between coats. Apply a second coat for richer color and deeper grain contrast. Full cure in 72 hours before sealing.

2 to 4 hr dry time
💡 Pro tip: Wipe away excess within 5 minutes of application. Stain left pooled on the surface can dry tacky and blotchy.

COMMON QUESTIONS

FAQ

Everything you need to know before you start your project.

Do I need to use a wood conditioner first?

No. Evolve Soy Stains are formulated to penetrate evenly without a preconditioner on most species. For soft, porous woods like pine or fir, light sanding to 220 grit before application will give the most even result.

How many coats do I need?

One coat gives a light natural tone. Two coats give a richer, deeper result. Most customers use two coats. Let each coat dry fully (2 to 4 hours) before applying the next.

Can I use it after stripping with the Furniture Stripper Kit?

Yes, and this is the ideal sequence. Strip with the Furniture Stripper, neutralize with the Finishing Cleaner, let the wood dry 24 hours, then apply Evolve. The grain will be completely open and ready to absorb.

Does it need a topcoat sealer?

For furniture that sees daily use, we recommend sealing with Furniture Shield after the 72-hour cure. For decorative pieces or low-traffic surfaces, many customers leave it as-is and let the soy formula provide the protection.

Is it safe to use indoors?

Yes. Ultra-low VOC under 50 g/L. No harsh fumes. Open a window for ventilation as you would with any project, but no respirator or heavy-duty extraction is required.

How do I clean up?

Soap and water cleans brushes, cloths, and skin. Dispose of used staining rags flat and open to dry before discarding — soy-oil rags can generate heat if bunched and sealed.
