surface shield
A water-based exterior sealer that locks color and protection into outdoor wood and composite. It shields decks, fences, and furniture from UV, rain, and foot traffic, with zero VOC and no fumes, so you can seal the whole deck with the kids and the dog right there with you.
ABOUT SURFACE SHIELD
Seal the whole deck without clearing the yard.
Outdoor wood takes a beating. Sun fades it, rain swells it, and foot traffic wears the finish thin right where you walk. Most deck sealers ask you to trade that protection for a day of fumes and a fenced-off yard. We built Surface Shield so you don't have to choose. It goes on water-based and dries clear of solvent smell, so you can seal a deck, a fence, or a set of outdoor chairs with the family and the garden right there. The cured film stands up to UV, rain, and the daily traffic an outdoor surface actually sees, and it locks down the color underneath instead of clouding over it.

How to apply Surface Shield
Clean and dry the surface
Strip off grime, grease, and weathering with Exo-Clean, then let the surface dry fully. Sealer over a dirty or damp surface will not bond.
Stain first if you want color
For a colored finish, apply Evolve Soy Stains and let it cure before sealing. Bare wood can be sealed directly.
Spray or Roll on
Apply with a hand help pump sprayer and back roll with a nap roller for best results.

COMMON QUESTIONS
FAQ
Everything you need to know before you start your project.
Surface Shield vs Color Shield, which do I need?
Surface Shield is for exterior wood and composite, decks, fences, and outdoor furniture. Color Shield is for concrete, pavers, and masonry.
Surface Shield vs Furniture Shield?
Surface Shield is built for the outdoors. Furniture Shield is the water-based urethane topcoat for interior wood furniture after staining or painting.
Is it really safe to use around my kids and garden?
Yes. It is water-based and zero-VOC, so there are no harsh fumes and no need to clear the yard.
Do I have to stain first?
No. Stain with Evolve Soy Stains for color, or seal bare wood directly to protect it with a natural look.
How long before I can use the furniture normally?
Touch dry in 1 to 2 hours. Recoat after 2 to 4 hours. Handle with care for the first 24 hours. Full cure takes 7 days — avoid heavy use, heat, and moisture until then.
Can I use Furniture Shield on floors?
Furniture Shield is formulated for furniture and cabinetry. For hardwood floors, use our Floor Stripper system instead, which includes a floor-rated sealer designed for foot traffic and abrasion loads much higher than furniture.
