STONE TRANSITIONS STAINS
Water-based, semi-transparent stain and sealer for decorative concrete and masonry. Nano-pigments penetrate deep for a mottled, natural-stone finish, and the high resin content seals as it stains, so most jobs need no separate topcoat.
Semi-transparent and mixable for custom tones. Screen colors may vary, so we recommend a test patch on the actual substrate.
ABOUT STONE TRANSITIONS
Stain and seal decorative concrete in a single step.
Most concrete stains make you choose: color now, seal later. We built Stone Transitions to do both in one pass. The resin-heavy formula locks pigment into the pores and forms its own protective layer, which resists wash-out and leaching on most applications. Nano-pigment dispersion drives color deep and keeps it there, with no light-sensitive dyes to fade in the sun. The result is a semi-transparent, mottled finish that dries to a natural matte, reads like real stone, and enhances the slab’s natural texture instead of hiding it. Works indoors and outdoors, with no objectionable odors, so it is safe to use in enclosed areas.
- Combination stain + sealer, no topcoat required for durability on most jobs
- Semi-transparent mottled finish that shows off concrete texture
- Water-based, low-odor, safe for enclosed indoor spaces
- Fade-resistant: no light-sensitive dyes, ideal outdoors
- Mixable between colors and dilutable with water for custom tones
- LEED-qualifying, VOC under 25 g/L, made in Kankakee, Illinois
How to apply Stone Transitions Stains
Prep and etch the surface
Surface must be structurally sound, clean, dry, and free of dust, efflorescence, mortar smear, and curing or form-release compounds. Age new concrete 12 to 28 days. On smooth, dense, or hard-troweled concrete, open the pores with mechanical abrasion or Exo-Clean — never muriatic acid. Rinse and let dry.
Cure 12 to 28 days firstShake and dilute
Shake the bottle well and pour into a clean pail. Dilute 1:1 to 1:3 with potable water. Less water means deeper color; more water lightens the tone.
Dilute 1:1 to 1:3Apply, recoat, and dry
Apply with brush, sprayer, sponge, or mop, keeping a wet edge to avoid lap marks. For deeper color, apply full strength and recoat 30 to 40 minutes after the first pass penetrates. Allow to dry before foot traffic.

COMMON QUESTIONS
FAQ
Everything you need to know before you start your project.
Do I need a separate sealer?
No. Stone Transitions is a combination stain and sealer. For outdoor high-traffic or wet areas, we sometimes pair it with Color Shield for extra UV and water protection.
Indoor or outdoor?
Both. Low odor and low VOC make it safe for indoor floors, and it is UV-stable and fade-resistant for patios, driveways, and pool decks outdoors.
Can I use it on new concrete?
Wait at least 12 to 14 days, ideally 28 — new concrete needs to fully cure for the stain to penetrate properly. Overlays and microtoppings need 48 to 72 hours.
How do I prep a smooth, dense, or hard-troweled surface?
Open the pores with mechanical abrasion or chemical etching with Exo-Clean. Never use muriatic acid — it etches too aggressively and leaves residues that block penetration.
How much do I dilute it, and how many coats?
Dilute 1:1 to 1:3 with water — less water for deeper color, more to lighten. For a richer hue, apply full strength and recoat 30 to 40 minutes after the first pass penetrates.
Will the color fade outdoors?
No. Stone Transitions uses nano-pigments with no light-sensitive dyes, so the color is UV-stable and fade-resistant on patios, driveways, and pool decks.
